It's a difficult time to eat healthily when there are so many indulgent treats around, we get it! To help navigate through Christmas this year, try keeping these principles in mind;

Mindful eating
It sounds complicated but is actually really simple. Before eating, think about the effect the food you choose will have on you, what will you take from it? Whilst eating, take time with every mouthful. Mindful eating connects your brain to your stomach to help you recognise when you're full.

15 minutes between plates
Your body needs around 15 minutes to release the hormones which tell your brain you are full. So after your first plate, wait a little while just to let your body catch up.

Serving your plate
We traditionally add our favourite things first (meat, roastes, Yorkshires) before adding vegetables. Try it the other way round, adding nourishing foods first then smaller portions of the more decadent items.

Perfectly portioned
Find a smaller plate and use this to guide you how much to serve. This can also trick your brain into thinking you've had more than you have.

Walking

After a  big meal, heading out for a long walk can help with digestion  and burn some energy to compensate for the indulged day of food. And you get to enjoy more quality time with the family. Most importantly, enjoy!
