Are you as healthy, nourished, and resilient as you possibly can be?
We want to try and help you to strike a balance between returning to pre - Lockdown norm as well as introducing some new practices that will support both our physical and our mental wellbeing - keeping us calm and happy.
I feel that now more than ever, we must work to ensure our minds and bodies are as healthy, nourished, and resilient as they possibly can be. The combination of eating 'right' paired with movement and stress-management is the key to feeling our strongest selves.
The role of gut health
The gut is increasingly being recognized as playing a crucial role in maintaining both our physical and mental health. Our Senior Nutritionist, Sarah, explains "A well-nourished gut microbiome supports a healthy mind. Our gut microbiota can have an influence on both physical and mental well-being. In fact, 90% of the body's overall production of serotonin (a neurotransmitter that contributes to well-being and happiness), is produced in the gut." In order to maintain a happy gut and a happy mind, we must look at what we eat as well as external factors, like stress. And that's what we aim to provide here at Jane Plan, through providing deliciously healthy food, daily support from our Nutrition team, and online yoga classes - it's the perfect combination of mind, body, and movement!
And this is the perfect moment to introduce you properly to Sarah,
our Senior Nutritionist.
Sarah, our Senior Nutritionist, and she's lost 2 1/2 stone.
Tell us briefly about yourself?
Since I was little I have always enjoyed anything to do with cooking and aspired to be a Chef. I completed a BSc (Hons) in Human Nutrition at the University of Worcester and during my studies, I learned that there is a lot more to good nutrition than just science. Fascinated by the importance of good nutrition I went on to complete my MSc in Public Health.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I enjoy cooking and experimenting with different ingredients to create a healthier version of my favourite dishes. To reduce food waste I develop recipes to use up leftover ingredients and this also helps to save money (very handy during my university studies!). I always make time to go for a long walk each day as this helps me to relax and unwind – with the added bonus of burning a few calories!
Why did you want to work with Jane Plan?
During my first year at University, I gained a lot of weight. However, I successfully lost 2.5 stone in 3 months. As I have previously struggled with my weight, I understand the highs and lows of being on a weight loss journey - I have always wanted to help others achieve their own goals.
What is your most important nutritional advice you can give?
Don’t believe everything you read related to diet and health on social media – for example removing whole food groups is not going to benefit you in the long term!
What is your go-to snack?
I try not to snack as this is my downfall. Although I do enjoy a Jane Plan Lemon Shortbread with my afternoon coffee!
