Are you still on track for a new you this year? Or have you already broken your resolutions?

Hello, It's not easy to stick to resolutions, in fact there's some evidence to suggest we shouldn't make them at all. Did you know that nearly 90% of all people who set a New Year's resolution fail by the end of the year: in fact, most of them fail within the first two weeks.

The best approach when making a resolution, or goal, is to make it achievable. Too often we burden ourselves with impossible goals, that we can't stick to. If you've already fallen off the wagon with your goals for 2020, don't give up completely, tweak your goal to make it work for you and get back on board. It's better to make small changes that you can really stick to, as opposed to giving up completely. Check out how we're getting on with our best intentions for 2020 here at  Jane Plan.
Jane's goal for 2020 was to reduce food wastage. Jane runs a busy household with lots of different people coming and going – and they all have different dietary requirements – from vegans to meat-eaters, to people who want to eat fewer carbs and others who want to lose weight. This means meal planning is really tough and as a  result, she has previously thrown lots of food away. Jane vowed to put a stop to food wastage this year – because it’s bad for the environment and it’s bad for her budgeting. So far, it has been going quite well and she’s been more inventive with recipes to use up leftovers, But Jane has noticed she has to shop daily, as opposed to weekly, to really avoid food wastage.
Natasha's goal for 2020 was to try and run on her lunch break each day, however, she realized this was a bit ambitious so she has reset her goal to running every week instead. Once the weather gets warmer, she plans to try and up it to twice a week and also include a gym session. There's nothing wrong with setting a goal and changing it - the reality is for most of us life can get in the way, so Tash has made a small change to her goal, which ultimately will mean she can stick to it for longer.
Pippa's goal for 2020 was to choose the vegetarian or vegan option more -  Pippa would like to eat more sustainably. This has been going very well - especially with most restaurants getting involved in Veganuary!! Going forward, Pippa's plan is to do a Meat-free Monday for the rest of the year and she feels by setting herself a realistic goal, she's got a great chance of sticking to it. Watch this space.
Sarah's 2020 goal was to make sure she does her 10,000 steps a day, no matter what the weather is like or what she is doing. So far she's averaging 8500 steps a day - not too bad! We've been very busy here at Jane Plan, but when it quietens down, Sarah is planning on taking Sunny, the Jane Plan dog. for a walk in her lunch break.
Heather's 2020 goal was to take up yoga so she has joined a local yoga class. But, she has been so busy in January that she hasn't started yet. Heather hopes to get going this week, and to make herself go she is going to put a diary note in her phone. Good luck Heather.
Alexandra's goal for 2020 was to make a new recipe each week, expanding her knowledge of food, as well as her skills in the kitchen.  So every Sunday night Alexandra is choosing 5 new recipes each week and making sure she has the right ingredients in the house. So far she is on track, but she is worried that it is really time-consuming and she may not have time every week. So she's setting up an Ocado account to make sure she gets a delivery of all her ingredients every Sunday - she thinks this will help her stay on track.
