Counting the true cost of lockdown - in lb's!
If the media is to be believed, for most of us, the weeks of living in Lockdown have taken their toll, with many of us turning to food for comfort. To find out if this is really true, we've commissioned some research and asked thousands of people all over the country about their eating habits.
And our very own Dr. Sarah Jarvis has been on BBC radio, talking to 3 million listeners about our research and how to eat healthily in the 'new' normal.
Here's what we found out......
Almost half of us have put on weight in Lockdown, and 78% of us say we have eaten more than usual! From late night snacking, to nibbling throughout the day, it would seem we are really struggling to control our eating habits. It's been really tough - our routines are out of the window, gyms are closed and socialising a distant memory, so it's not surprising we have adopted the attitude over the last few months to live for today and not worry about the future. But, does this attitude come at a price?
Despite the severity of the Covid-19 outbreak instigating wider conversations around the nation's health and the importance of a balanced lifestyle, two thirds of us are still comfort eating to get through the boredom of Lockdown.
But there is some good news - our research shows that the British population are already planning to reduce their weight gain, in fact 73% of you said you want to lose the weight you have put on. And we're here to help!

Meet Dr. Sarah Jarvis
Tell us briefly about yourself?
After training in medicine at Cambridge and Oxford, I became a GP and I practice in Shepherd's Bush, London. I have been the resident doctor for the Jeremy Vine show on BBC Radio 2 for the last 16 years and frequently appear on his Channel 5 show too. I am also often on BBC 1 and Good Morning Britain on ITV. I also write columns for Good Housekeeping and I have been the author or 6 books. In 2018 I was awarded an MBE for services to general practice and public understanding of health.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to garden, walk my dogs and spend time with my family.
Why did you want to work with Jane Plan?
I believe that when it comes to losing weight, people should avoid fad diets and make lifestyle changes that last - eating healthy, low GI food, in a calorie and portion controlled way, is a clinically proven way of managing your weight. Being supported whilst making these changes is important, and taking exercise is also a factor when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle.
What is your most important nutritional advice you can give?
Be mindful when you eat, cut out unhealthy snacking and watch your portion size.
What is your go-to snack?
Cherry tomatoes, carrots and almonds.
