Eight Essential Healthy Holiday Hacks That You Need To Know

Whether you’re having a staycation or a vacation Jane Plan has got you covered!

Holidays are a time to relax, reset and recharge. Taking a well-deserved break from the pressures of everyday life is important for health and well-being. However, the summer holiday season can quickly unravel your healthy habits if you’re not prepared.

If you feel destined to gain weight this summer season, worry no more. We have 8 holiday hacks to keep you on track.

Pack Your Snack
If you’re heading out for the day or catching a flight, it’s best to have a healthy snack to hand to avoid any temptations. A Jane Plan snack and a piece of fruit are great for on the go. Otherwise find your local supermarket and stock up on healthy snacks, to have when you’re feeling peckish.

Stay Hydrated

This is especially important to consider in the summer seasons. During the warm weather, your body will lose more water from perspiration, so it’s important to replenish this by staying hydrated. A good idea is to keep a reusable water bottle with you to make sure you always have water to hand.

Breakfast is a Big Deal

Start your day, as you mean to carry on. Making healthier choices at breakfast, means you are more likely to continue making healthier choices throughout the day. A good start will also leave you feeling energised. We would suggest avoiding high sugar and high carbohydrate foods. Greek yoghurt and fruit or an omelette would be a good choice!

Portion Control

Why not try sharing meals to recuse portion size? After all, sharing is caring! If sharing isn’t your thing, why not pick a starter sized meal for your main. If you’re enjoying a buffet, try using a smaller sized plate and fill 50% of it with veggies or salad. Remember you don’t always have to finish everything on your plate. Stop eating when you’re feeling full.

Clever with Cocktails

Cosmopolitan, Margarita and Pina Colada - are your favourite cocktails filling you up with empty calories? Alcohol and especially cocktails are high in sugar and calories, by cutting back on the amount you drink, it can help to reduce your calorie intake. We would suggest taking your time and enjoy it while drinking less. Little and often is the best rule!

Exercise

The easiest way to stay active on holiday is by walking. This can help to increase your cardiovascular fitness, maintain your weight and improve your mood. Plus walking is the best way to explore your destination!

Eat like a local

Try what the locals are having and immerse yourself in the culture. Local food is often picked fresh and produced in the area. You can enjoy some fresh produce while supporting the local businesses.

Enjoy yourself

Spend time with your friends, family or have a self-care day! We all need a break to reduce stress, unwind, and discover new things. So, don’t forget to enjoy yourself.

If you overindulge or go off track, don’t be too hard on yourself. One mistake isn’t going to ruin all of your hard work. Just remember your goals and start again tomorrow.
