How to stop the sun ruining your healthy eating
The sun - it's a two sided coin. It brings us so much joy, light and fun. It also brings us endless temptation. Is it just me who seems to automatically find myself chilling a bottle of wine when the clouds disappear?
Let's be realistic - we may not always be able to resist the temptations that summer brings. To help you avoid some of the pitfalls that come with summer, we have a few tips up our sleeve. Plus, what to do if you slip up (it happens).
A tricky one. Summer tends to bring more social events, as we become confident venturing out of our homes without a puffer jacket on. Go for lighter options such as a gin and slim line, vodka and soda, or a wine spritzer. Have a glass of water inbetween every drink, if you wake up the next day with an unpleasant hangover you're much more likely to indulge.
Is it just us or are there burgers and pizzas everywhere at the moment. So tempting, so delicious. If you're hell bent on pizza, see if a couple of friends want to share, and then get a small salad to compliment your meal. You'll still get the satisfaction from the pizza, with a fraction of the calories. Where meals have dressings on, ask for without. Make sure to hit up seasonal veg as opposed to the chips too.
Dinner at a friends
If you're on plan, ring ahead and ask what the host is cooking. You can then bring your most similar meal and enjoy alongside everyone else with a side helping of veg. If you're going it alone, make sure to stick to one plate of food and then politely take your plate to the dishwasher. No plate, no more food.
Picnic or beach days
So fun, despite the faff of setting up and cleaning afterwards. Finding options that are compatible for this can be tricky. Go for a frittata over quiche, chicken sausages to nibble on, crudites with hummus and fresh fruit. Lots of nutrition, taste, and not much to clean up. Everyone wins.
Things gone wrong?
DO NOT beat yourself up! We are all human, and what you do next says more about you and your motivation, not the fact you had one too many drinks at your friend's BBQ. Reset your frame of mind, plan your next few weeks of healthy eating and stock up on nourishing foods to get you feeling great again. You've got this.
