Is Veganuary worth a try?
You may have noticed that the supermarket aisles are particularly well stocked with vegan based products at the moment - yes, Veganuary is upon us once more. Meat and fish have traditionally been the focal point of the dinner plate, the part many of us can't go without.
You may have noticed that the supermarket aisles are particularly well stocked with vegan based products at the moment - yes, Veganuary is upon us once more. Meat and fish have traditionally been the focal point of the dinner plate, the part many of us can't go without. However, today, we are lucky enough to have a wide variety of ingredients available to us. So why not take away the focus from meat and fish, and celebrate all of the foods on our plate? Some of the tastiest foods we eat are plants; juicy, sweet heritage tomatoes picked in the throws of summer. Earthy mushrooms, sautéed with churned butter and fresh thyme. Tangy, crisp apples which are simply cut into slices.
Plant based foods are super nourishing, packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidant properties. A diet rich in these foods helps to reduce the risk of diabetes, some cancers and cardiovascular disease. Put simply, they are nutrient powerhouses.
So if taking part in Veganuary isn't quite for you, why not try a plant strong diet? Explore the power and most importantly the flavours of fruits, vegetables, beans, lentils, nuts and seeds. We've got some great ways to incorporate more plants into your diet too!
When cooking a stew or casserole, add in some lentils or beans for the last 20 minutes. These also contain plenty of fibre which is great for digestion.
Instead of your usual breakfast cereal, try porridge with cinnamon and baked apples. This goes great with some almonds sprinkled on top.
If you're making a curry, throw in some spinach, kale or spring greens before serving. Leafy greens are some of the more nutrient rich vegetables you can eat.
Buy some mixed seeds and sprinkle over soups, salads, or anything really! These add great texture to meals and are packed with fibre and good fats.
Try some out our delicious range of vegan and vegetarian meals. These are available on our full plans or if you just fancy some main meals you can try our Care Package.
Most importantly, enjoy your food and embrace the amazing ingredients available at your fingertips.
