The Best BBQ Recipes - Ever

Next weekend is the last Bank Holiday of the year, and for me and my family, that usually means the last BBQ of the year. So this week, we have some BBQ recipes that are perfect for a weekend feast.

 

Packed with healthy ingredients, and lower in fat (and calories), these grills are great for dining outdoors, and super quick to prepare too. There are some punchy flavours here, so keep your sides simple - a classic mixed leaf salad, a tomato and cucumber salad and a dollop of guacamole. 

 

Lime and Chilli Tuna Steaks

Ingredients for four

4 tuna steaks

2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lime juice

2 tablespoon of soy sauce (use reduced salt if you can)

2 tablespoons of honey

2 tablespoons of bottled chilli sauce (find it near the ketchup in your supermarket)

2 teaspoons of olive oil

Method

Pour all of the above over the tuna steaks, cover and marinade for 2 hours.

Remove the tuna from the marinade and griddle on the BBQ for a few minutes on either side. You are aiming for a pink middle.

Then heat the marinade ingredients in a pan and drizzle over the steaks when you serve.

Serve on a bed of rocket, add lemon wedges and sprinkle chopped coriander on top.

At just 309 calories they are worth every mouthful! For veggies, use aubergine halves instead of tuna.

 

Yoghurty Chicken Drumsticks

Ingredients for four

8 skinless chicken drumsticks

142ml pot of low fat natural yoghurt

1 teaspoon of chilli powder

1 tablespoon of ground cumin

1 tablespoon of ground coriander

2 teaspoons of ground tumeric

Method

Make small slashes with a sharp knife in the chicken

Mix all the remaining ingredients together in a bowl, add the drumsticks, then cover and marinade for two hours.

Remove the drumsticks from the marinade and grill on the BBQ for 25 minutes, turning occasionally until cooked through.

Serve on a platter and scatter freshly chopped mint on the top. Only 229 calories of deliciousness.

 

Turkey Burgers with Guacamole

Ingredients for four

400g of turkey mince

1 teaspoon of worcester sauce

85g of fresh bread crumbs

1 tablespoon of chopped coriander

1/2 red onion

Method

Mix the ingredients together and form 4 burgers

Cover and chill until ready to cook

Brush them lightly with olive oil and grill on the BBQ for 7-8 minutes either side until cooked through

Serve with homemade guacamole (smashed avocado, lime, finely chopped onion, sea salt) and add an optional brioche bun. 497 calories with the bun - 230 without!!
