The importance of friendship
We all know that friends are important. But did you also know that friends are good for your well-being and health? The last few months have really made me appreciate my friends - a quick chat is a great mood booster! So I started to research whether there's any scientific evidence behind this....
and look what I found out!
Friends lower stress – feeling close to someone can lower levels of progesterone in women, a hormone that helps reduce stress and anxiety. Friends can also motivate you to be healthier - when you’re looking to start a new workout routine or a healthier diet, you are more likely to be successful if you have support . And finally, friends just help you feel better.
But our friends don't always have the same challenges or goals as us, which is why all you lovely Jane Plannerers have your very own dedicated, fully - qualified Nutritionist, to help you on your journey. Your wonderful, and much appreciated emails and letters, tell us how much you value the friendship and support you receive from them.
So, at a time when many of us are still feeling a sense of isolation, we thought we'd introduce you all, over the next few weeks, to the members our friendly Nutrition team. Here's Heather!
Heather is a keen cook, a lover of hummus AND she has a Masters in Human Nutrition.
Tell us briefly about yourself?
I have always loved science and so went to the University of Sheffield to study Biology. While I was there I noticed that I was most excited when learning about food and so I realised that I wanted to learn more about this and pursue a career in this industry. This led to me to my decision to stay on for an extra year at University to complete a Masters in Human Nutrition for which I received a distinction.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I love all things food and health and so spend a lot of my spare time cooking new recipes and trying out new gym classes. Lockdown has led me to finding new online classes that I can do and finding things around my house to use as make-shift weights!
Why did you want to work at Jane Plan?
Weight loss is a huge lifestyle change and I enjoy being able to support people through their journey. It is great to be able to support people at their low points, but I also get just as excited as my clients when I hear that they have reached their goal
What is your most important nutritional advice you can give?
What works for someone else isn’t necessarily going to work for you. Nutrition and food is a very individual and personal thing, so try to work out what suits you best.
What is your go-to snack?
Hummus on anything – carrots, cucumber, breadsticks, toast!
