Weight Gain in Lockdown - The Stats

Is it Easier to Lose Weight in Lockdown? During these times, at the forefront of our minds here at Jane Plan is that of maintaining your health. We have always been committed to helping make the healthy choice the easy choice.

Whether it's looking after the meal prep and cooking for you, nutritionally balancing all our meals - so you don't have to worry about what you are eating, providing you with emotional support through our community, or delivering our dishes to your door. And this week we've been doing some research too!

Since lockdown, experts believe many people are likely to put on weight as we comfort eat (and drink) our way through the crisis. I am definitely eating more - so I can relate to this! However, we have noticed thousands of lovely newbies starting Jane Plan right now - so we wondered what the trigger was! We found that over half of our Jane Plan research group sited coronavirus and the risk factors associated with obesity as one of their considerations. We also discovered that Jane Planners had lost an average of 9lbs since lockdown.

You told us that you were helped by....

  • Not being able to go to the pub
  • Not browsing the aisles in the supermarket and buying unhealthy food
  • Steering clear of takeaways which had saved you ££'s and helped you lose lb's
  • Being away from work, so no naughty treats or extra calories on coffee and cake
  • Taking up regular exercise (Jane Plan workout classes are really popular right now)

In fact, almost half of you have chosen to join Jane Plan during lockdown to tackle long-term weight challenges (some of you wanting to lose up to 8 stone), whilst the other half of you want to reduce your BMI with a loss of one and two stones!

This is something to celebrate - I can't tell you how proud I am of all you lovely Jane Planners who are using, what is a tough time for us all, to make a positive change that will have a powerful effect on your physical and mental health - both now and long-term. I love the fact that you are bucking the predicted trend of weight gain during lockdown. Well done everyone!

We love feedback at Jane Plan, so please do let us know what you'd like to hear more about - or less about - in our weekly catch-ups, by emailing hello@janeplan.com. I promise to read and respond to all your emails :)

Have a wonderful week, stay safe, stay healthy, and stay at home.

Best wishes,
Jane and the team
