Pace yourself this Party Season
Why Christmas doesn’t have to be a disaster for your waistline
Christmas is a wonderful time of year for celebrations with family and friends. But with this comes quite a lot of over-indulging, and many of us can’t help but dread the extra “lbs” we’ll be taking into the New Year with us. Here are some tips to get you through the festive season without your wardrobe needing to move up a size in January.
Planning is key to ensure that whether it’s your office Christmas party or a girl’s night on the town, you can dodge the extra calories. Pick your menu before going and stick with it. If you’re hosting, try some of our healthy canapé ideas to stay on track. Make sure you don’t arrive hungry and avoid the mentality that skipping meals earlier in the day will help. Trust that you will turn up ready to eat the entire ferrero rocher tree! Instead, have a protein rich lunch to fill you up beforehand and help beat sugar cravings.
Don't drink your calories
Review your booze intake and make sure to stay hydrated throughout the day. Alternating your glasses of bubbles with a glass of water will save calories and also help avoid the dreaded hangover the next day.
It's so simple but we sometimes forget how important being well hydrated is. Often when we think we are hungry we are in fact just thirsty. Thirst is a delayed trigger for dehydration so if you wait until you’re thirsty it is highly likely that your body is already in a state of dehydration. When the body feels dehydrated it panics and slows everything down, including our digestion, which can be a factor in why you’re not dropping the pounds. Try to drink two litres of water a day as part of a healthy eating diet plan. Think of the added bonus of beautifully clear skin ready for your Christmas party, it’s a no brainer really!
Dance your guilt away
Wouldn’t it be a great idea to just accept that you are inevitably going to have some naughty nibbles and enjoy them? Guilt is a pointless emotion and we waste far too much time beating ourselves up about the extra mince pie. Instead get out and burn those extra calories, hit the dance floor and remind yourself of how much fun it is dance like no one is watching. A morning walk will burn off the excess from the night before and also clear out the cobwebs, leaving you feeling fresh for the day ahead.
Don’t lose sight of what is important at this time of year, sharing old memories with friends and making new ones with your nearest and dearest will bring you far more enjoyment than the box of celebrations ever could!
