Why Jane Plan?

We provide a delicious diet plan and deliver it right to your door. We take the hassle, effort and stress out of portion and calorie controlled eating for weight-loss, by designing and delivering a bespoke diet plan especially tailored to you.

In 2014 Good Housekeeping reviewed a number of delivered diet plans (companies offering diet food delivery). Jane Plan was awarded 93/100, the highest of all the diet delivery companies, including many that charged up to three times as much!

Wherever possible, the fresh ingredients which we use in our meals are sourced locally to our kitchens, we pride ourselves in our range of Organic breakfasts and we NEVER use artificial colours, flavours or preservatives in our food.

At Jane Plan we also realise that dieting and weight-loss can be a stressful and an emotional time. We don’t just provide you with diet food, we also provide you with as much support and encouragement as you like. If you opt for telephone support, our dedicated nutritionist will call you on a weekly basis to see how you are getting on and answer all of your questions. We’re open from 8am till 8pm daily so if you have any questions, please just pick up the phone, or drop us an email- we’d be delighted to help.

How quickly can we deliver?

Part of providing you with the best diet meal delivery service that we possibly can, is making sure we get your order to you as quickly as we can after receipt of your payment. We try our best to get your Jane Plan diet delivered to you within 3 working days, but sometimes we can do it quicker! If you’d like your diet sooner- let us know. If we possibly can, we will!  You can also select a delivery date to suit you at the checkout using our calendar. In fact, to make life even easier you can select a date up to three months in advance.

Please note that deliveries outside of the UK and in the Highlands, Islands and NI may take longer than 3 working days. Please get in touch with us if you would like more information on your ETA.

DIET DELIVERY:

What happens if I’m out when it is delivered?

On the morning your diet meals are delivered to your home (or work), we will try to get a notification to you from the courier by text or email telling you of a 1 hour window within which your parcel is estimated to be delivered.

If you won’t be home at this time, you can click on the link within the text or email letting them know a safe place to leave your parcel. Leaving your parcel without a signature is at the discretion of the driver, so if you are able to, leaving a signed note in a place the driver will be able to see it, granting your permission will help ensure your Jane Plan parcel is waiting for you when you get home.

If you are not home when the parcel is delivered and haven’t specified a safe place for it to be left, the driver will leave a calling card with details of a number you can call to rearrange delivery. They will attempt to deliver your parcel 3 times in total if you don’t contact them to specify a date or time for re-delivery. Once they have attempted 3 times, the parcel will be returned to the depot and re-labelled to be returned to us. At this point, we will be billed for attempted delivery and a fee to have the parcel returned to Jane Plan HQ. In order to have your parcel sent out to you once again, we will ask you to pay for delivery.

Can you deliver to my workplace?

Yes, of course! The Jane Plan diet can be delivered anywhere that suits you. You give us the address, we’ll get your discreetly packaged diet plan delivered right to the door.

Jane Plan is based in West London and we deliver diet plans all over the UK using one of the top five express carrier businesses in the UK to guarantee safety and efficiency.

We can deliver to Northern Ireland and the Highlands and Islands of Scotland for a surcharge of £5 which will be automatically applied at the checkout. We can also supply quotes on request for delivery to a host of other destinations.

We have delivered diet plans to satisfied Jane Plan customers in the Republic of Ireland, France, Switzerland, America, Canada and even Thailand so there’s a high chance we’ll be able to deliver to you, too!

Please contact us after placing your order if your diet is being delivered outside of the UK so that we can adjust your delivery accordingly and inform you of your estimated arrival date of your diet and any associated cost.

MY DIET PLAN:

What do I need to add to the diet?

Everything you need for your diet plan is included in your box with the exception of milk for teas and coffees or for breakfasts. If milk with your breakfast isn’t your thing, a low-fat yoghurt is a great alternative. We also suggest that you add in your own extra fresh fruits and vegetables. Your Jane Plan Guide Book contains lots of information on the types and quantities of fruit and veg to choose. If you have any other questions we’re always here to help as well. Our dedicated nutritionists are happy to explain how the Jane Plan works and the best accompaniments to your diet.

I want to stay on the plan long term – are there any ways you can help with the cost of this?

YES! The most economical diet plans that we offer are the Pay Monthly Plans. These plans are discounted so that the longer the minimum duration you sign up for, the less you will pay in the long term.

Concerned about getting bored of your food choices or losing motivation? Don’t worry- we can help! We have an extensive selection of food for you to choose from and you can change your menu for each new delivery. If you’re feeling a little demotivated and need a boost to get you back on track, that’s what we’re here to do. Pick up the phone or drop us an email and one of the Jane Plan team will be happy to have a chat and help you on your way to a happier, slimmer you!

Will I feel hungry?

We tailor each of our diet plans to suit you, based on the information you provide us with in your consultation. While initially, your body may need to adjust to the change in your eating habits, our healthy diet meals are designed to prevent hunger by keeping you feeling fuller for longer.

If you pick your own diet meals, (providing you pick a wide variety from our selection), you shouldn’t feel hungry either because every diet meal we create is designed to not only be delicious and wholesome, but also to be balanced and perfectly portioned.

Our low GI breakfasts will prevent any pre-lunch snacking and, if necessary, you can increase the amount of fresh fruit and vegetables in your diet plan. We also give you a mid-afternoon snack, to help stop that post-lunch sugar dip.

Check out our Diet Tips for some handy advice on how to curb your hunger and make slimmer snacking choices.

Which diet plan will work best for me?

We have created a range of diet plans ranging from short to long term commitments in our endeavor to facilitate as many people as possible, click here to see our full range of diet plans. If you can’t decide on which is best for you, please give us a call and one of our friendly team will help you to choose which diet plan is best for you.

How much weight will I lose in a week?

The average weight loss that our customers report while on one of our diet plans is a healthy and maintainable 2lbs per week. Some of our customers report rapid weight loss in the first few weeks of their diet plan, but this is due to a change in eating habits and is variable depending on age, height, weight, fitness levels and activity levels. If you are unsure as to the daily calorie average you require in your diet plan, either fill out a consultation on the website when placing your order by selecting ‘Let us choose for you’, sending an email to hello@janeplan.com or calling us on 0203 489 4770.

How many calories per day will my diet plan contain?

Each Jane Plan diet is specifically designed to suit the needs and desires of the individual; therefore there is no set daily calorie allowance. An average diet plan contains around 1,200 calories per day on our Classic Plan and Vegetarian Plan and slightly more at around 1,400 calories per day on our Man Plan. If you have specific calorie guidelines that you would like us to work within, please let us know during your diet plan consultation.

If you are using the ‘Let me pick my own’ feature on the website, you can click on the name of each of the dishes to reveal the nutritional information and view the calories. The meals which we offer are varied in their calorie content from the Beef in Black Bean Sauce which contains the highest calories at 437 and the Chickpea Tagine at the lowest end with 135 calories. When you take into consideration the additional milk and yoghurt, fruit and vegetables that you add into your plan and the different daily calorie levels, you are likely to average out at around 1200 calories per day.

If you have any concerns or queries regarding your calorie intake, let us know and we’ll answer your questions.

MY DIET FOOD:

Will I get the right vitamins and nutrients while on Jane Plan?

The best way to ensure you meet your nutritional needs is by eating a wide and varied diet that includes protein, the right types of carbohydrate, fats, as well as fruits and vegetables – we base our diet plans on this approach.

Jane Plan doesn’t exclude any food groups, our diet meals are calorie and portion controlled. You’ll also get additional nutrients from the extra fruits and vegetables that you add into your diet plan meals with breakfast lunch and dinner.

I’ve received Jane Plan meals that I don’t like, what do I do?

We want you to be happy with your diet plan and so while we try our best to create a healthy diet you’ll love, if there are any diet meals you dislike or are unhappy with, please do let us know and we’ll be happy to organise a swap so long as you let us know within 14 days from receipt of delivery.

Send an email to hello@janeplan.com or call us on 0203 489 4770 letting us know what you would like to do. We will email you a ‘Swap Form’ asking you to provide us with the items you are returning and what you would like in their place. Email it back to us, and print one to include in the box you return to us. Then simply package up the meals (making sure they’re well wrapped and protected), and send to Jane Plan, SouthPark Studios, 88 Peterborough Road, London, SW64HH.

We can include your swap items in your next delivery if you have one, alternatively we can send them out to you for £7.94.

Do I need a microwave to heat my food?

You can use a microwave to heat Jane Plan meals, but you don’t need one!

All of our diet meals can be heated in a microwave following the guidelines either on the individual food packet or on the ‘Storing, Heating & Eating’ guide included in your box. They can also be heated on the hob, and some in the oven. Either method will give you delicious diet dinners in minutes!

Can’t heat up food at work? Jane Plan offer a wide selection of lunches. There’s an array of salads and soups to choose from, if you let us know how many days per week you can heat up your lunch, we’ll take that into consideration when designing your menu.

How do I store my diet meal plan?

Jane Plan diet meals are ambient and can be stored in the box that they are delivered to you in! Our meals don’t need to be refrigerated or frozen, just kept in a cool, dry place.

If you happen to open one of the pouches or trays and don’t eat it immediately, it can be kept in the fridge for up to 24 hours. Just make sure you heat through thoroughly before eating.

Do you have vegetarian/ vegan diet meals?

YES!

We have an extensive selection of vegetarian options on Jane Plan. We aim to cater to every potential Jane Planner’s needs! You can see on the Gorgeous menus page on our website that the meals marked with a 'v' are the veggie options and you can select Vegetarian Plan on our Diet plans page to be given a preselected favourites menu of all of our favourite vegetarian meals.

If you have any questions about your Vegetarian Diet Plan, then give us a call or an email and we’ll be delighted to help you out.

We can also cater for a vegan diet, but please note- your choices may be slightly more limited.

How do the meals stay fresh?

Have you heard of the Sous Vide cooking method? We do something very similar!

We steam the food to a high temperature in a pressure cooker and seal each individual portion while it’s still hot, therefore preserving it naturally. We don’t use any artificial preservatives, colours, or additives. Our unique cooking method means having your diet meals delivered is not only convenient, but also healthy.

Just to let you know, a natural preserving process is employed in the curing process of the ham in our delicious Jane Plan Pea and Wiltshire Ham soup and in the drying process of the apricots in the Luxury Gluten Free Muesli. We don’t add nasty chemicals, it’s just that the process of drying apricots and curing ham is a preserving process- don’t worry!

How are the diet meals produced?

The majority of Jane Plan lunches and dinners are prepared in either our kitchens in Yorkshire (Always using carefully sourced meat and as much as possible, local British meat).

We try, where possible, to use locally sourced produce, although unfortunately this is not always possible.

All of our breakfasts are Fair Trade and the majority are organic. Our cookies are baked in London and our oatcakes are baked in the Orkneys. The provenance of our diet meals is very important to us and we search the country to bring you the very best.

Can I choose my own meals?

It’s very important to us that you enjoy the meals on your healthy diet plan, so while usually our team will design a meal plan for you based on what you tell us in your consultation, we also offer the option to view our full diet menu so you can tell us which ones you’d prefer.

If you are choosing your own meals for your Jane Plan, and it’s your first time with us, do try and select a varied menu. We find that it is better to try a varied selection at the beginning and then narrow down to your favourites to avoid boredom from repetition. If you are worried about or dislike certain ingredients, click on the name of the meal in the list and you will be shown a full list of nutritionals and ingredients to help you make your decision.

Heating and Eating Instructions

We’ve included heating and eating instructions below to explain in a little more detail exactly what is involved in getting Jane Plan ready to eat.

Breakfast: How do I cook my porridge?

Empty contents of packet into a bowl, cover with skimmed/semi-skimmed milk, stir and microwave on high for 1 minute. If you like your porridge to have a ‘bite’ to it, it should be ready now. If you like a smoother consistency, stir again and microwave on high for a further 30 seconds.

Heating instructions rely upon the strength of your microwave, so you may need to cook for up to 3 minutes depending on how smooth you like your porridge! You can also cook over a low heat on the hob for the same length of time, making sure to keep stirring so it doesn’t stick and burn.

Breakfast: How should I eat my Granola and Muesli?

These breakfasts are really tasty with 2-3 tablespoons of low-fat yoghurt or skimmed/semi-skimmed milk to taste and a handful or two of berries; there’s no need to heat these.

Lunch

Salads

Our lovely salads are ready to be eaten cold. Just peel back the lid and enjoy out of the tin, or even better; pop into a bowl and serve with a green salad or a portion of crudités.

Soups

Best served warm! Tear or cut off the top of the pouch and put directly into the microwave for 2 minutes on high, or pour it into a bowl and heat the same way- whichever you prefer! Alternatively, heat over a low heat on the hob until it begins to bubble, pour into a bowl and tuck-in! Make a side salad to accompany your soup.

Dinners

The Jane Plan dinners are packaged in either trays or pouches, all meals can be microwaved and some can be heated on the hob or in the oven- please remember microwave ovens do vary! Accompany your Jane Plan dinners with vegetables or salad.

Tray meals

Remove cardboard sleeve and pierce film. Microwave on high for 3 minutes then leave to stand for 1 minute before removing plastic and tucking in. To bake in the oven, remove from tray and place in an oven proof dish. Heat for 20-25 minutes at 190  ?c.

Pouches

Simply remove the cardboard label and tear off the top of the pouch. Heat for 2 minutes in the microwave either in the pouch or poured into a dish.  Alternatively they can be heated on the hob; tip into a pan and heat for 2-3 minutes over a medium heat, stirring occasionally.

Snacks

Tear open the plastic wrapper, sit back, relax and enjoy your well-deserved treat!

EATING OUT:

What happens if I go out for lunch/dinner?

Your Jane Plan is designed to accommodate your lifestyle, so you can still enjoy eating out occasionally! We suggest researching the restaurant before you go to help decide what to order, and if you need extra help a member of our team will be happy to go through the menu with you.

If you eat out regularly you might be interested in our ‘weekends off’ diet plan. We can also provide recipes to cook at home, so you won’t undo all your hard work if you do eat off-plan.

DRINKS:

How much water should I drink?

Keeping hydrated is so important ALL the time- not just when you’re on a diet plan. We recommend that you drink 1.5 litres per day- this will keep you hydrated, feeling fuller and it’ll do wonders for your energy levels and even your skin!

Can I drink coffee/tea/alcohol?

At Jane Plan, we don’t adopt an ‘all or nothing’ approach to drinks. Instead we help you plan strategies so you can enjoy your favourite drinks in moderation. Typically we recommend a detox during your first week to help cleanse your body. However, each healthy diet plan is individual so can be designed to suit your lifestyle.

General rules are, omit soft drinks if at all possible, and if not, the diet option is always going to be a better choice than the full-fat version. If you’re having milk in tea and coffee, veer towards skimmed and semi-skimmed milk and avoid alcohol if you can. If you can’t- try and space out alcoholic beverages with glasses of water.

During your start-up phone call, your consultant will advise you further on drinks to accompany your diet plan.

EXERCISE:

Do I need to exercise while following my Jane Plan?

You don’t need to exercise while doing Jane Plan in order to lose weight. However, we recommend that you try and exercise for at least 30 minutes, three times a week. We work with a number of gyms and trainers and can put you in touch with appropriate professionals to help you.

Can I use a fitness or weight-loss app to track my progress?

Yes, you certainly can! You will find a food diary as well as an inch and weight loss tracker in your account area of our website which we hope you will find useful. There are also many fitness, weight-loss and calorie tracking apps and websites out there which may be of interest. Many of these contain details of Jane Plan meals, however as these have been uploaded by our lovely clients and not us, there is a possibility that some information may be inaccurate so it is always best to check back to our website for the most up to date nutritional information on our meals if you have any doubts.

Automatic Renewals

Accordingly, if you want to continue your plan, there is nothing for you to do.  Your plan will automatically be renewed at our current price for the plan and we will continue to take monthly payment from the payment method selected by you and you will continue to receive your Diet Plan monthly.

Of course, if you want to make any changes to the Pay Monthly Plan your on (e.g. change to a different plan), please contact us before expiry of your minimum period.

I NO LONGER WANT TO RECEIVE DIET PLANS – HOW DO I TERMINATE MY SUBSCRIPTION WITH YOU?:

Termination

Our Pay Month Plans will be automatically renewed for successive periods of 1 month at the end of their minimum term unless we have received notice from you that you no longer want to continue with the plan.

If you want to terminate your subscription, please follow the procedure below:

(1) You may cancel the next renewal of your Pay Monthly Plan at any time  upon giving us at least 5 working days’ written notice before the renewal date for your plan. Upon giving us such notice, your plan will terminate upon expiry of the final month of your plan and your plan will not be automatically renewed.

(2) For example, if you have a 3 Month Plan and you want it to terminate at the end of the initial minimum period of 3 months, you must give us your written notice to terminate at least 5 working days before the end of the third month.  If you give us such notice, the plan will terminate at the end of the third month.  If you do not give such notice, then the plan will be automatically renewed for another month and will continue to be so renewed until you give us 5 working days notice before the end of the month and the start of your next monthly renewal period.  Once payment has been taken for a renewal period, it is not possible for you to cancel until the next month.

(3) Your next renewal date can be found in the “Your Account” section on our website.   Where you have served valid notice to terminate, we will continue to provide your Diet Plan until the last month in your current Pay Monthly Plan and you will continue to be charged your monthly fee until the end of the then current Pay Monthly Plan.

To qualify for this you must return a minimum of 27 days of food if you are on the Full Plan or 19 days of food if you are on Weekends Off Plan, within 14 days from the date of your delivery.

Alternatively, if you prefer, you can reduce the duration of your Plan. If you have chosen a Three or Four Month Plan but think this is going to be too long for you, you can downgrade to a One Month Plan as long as you let us know within 14 days from the date of your delivery. Don't forget that the One Month Plan is a different price point to the longer term plans.

SPECIFIC DIETARY REQUIREMENTS:

Is Jane Plan clinically proven?

Jane Plan meets all best practice standards following NICE guideline 43 (Obesity: guidance on the prevention, identification, assessment and management of overweight and obesity in adults and children, clinical guideline 43, London Dec 2006).

Our clients tell us that they not only lose weight, but keep it off for a long time.

WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU SEEK MEDICAL ADVICE BEFORE STARTING ANY WEIGHT LOSS, DIET OR NUTRITIONAL PROGRAMME. THE INFORMATION PROVIDED BY US IS NOT MEDICAL ADVICE OR A SUBSTITUTE FOR MEDICAL TREATMENT IF YOU ARE UNDERWEIGHT, PREGNANT, BREASTFEEDING, UNDER 18 OR HAVE ANY MEDICAL CONDITION WHICH AFFECTS YOUR DIETARY REQUIREMENTS.

Does the diet follow GDA for salt and sugar?

Jane Plan meals follow the NHS guidelines for salt content and many of our meals are significantly lower than they have to be. We have managed to maintain taste and flavour while also keeping a low salt content.

If you feel you need to add additional flavour to your meals, try using dried garlic or some chopped red chilies or some fresh herbs, rather than adding salty seasonings.

We try very hard to comply with NHS guidelines and cook the majority our food to meet the low sugar criteria of less that 3g per every 100g. All low sugar diet meals are clearly indicated on the web site.

Is Jane Plan suitable for a halal/kosher diet?

The majority of our vegetarian and fish options are suitable for a halal diet.  Unfortunately we do not have any kosher meals at the moment. Please feel free to give us a call if you would like to discuss this further.

I’m gluten/dairy-intolerant/I have food allergies – is Jane Plan suitable for me?

Yes. The majority of Jane Plan meals are wheat or dairy-free, and many are also gluten-free. We have many clients who request a gluten-free diet plan who have successfully lost weight and enjoyed a wide and varied diet with us.

Please note that some of our meals contain nuts and others are made in an environment where nuts are handled!

Simply tell us in your consultation what allergies or intolerances you have, and we’ll exclude those foods from your diet plan.

If you have any concerns, phone a member of the Jane Plan team on 0203 489 4770.

I’m diabetic (type 1 or 2) – is Jane Plan suitable for me?

Yes, we have a number of clients with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes who’ve successfully reduced their weight on Jane Plan – and in many cases experienced significant health benefits, too. As with any medical condition, it’s best to check with your GP or healthcare professional before starting your diet.

We can provide full nutritional information (simply call or email us and we’ll send everything over to you), giving you the freedom and control to select your diet meals. All of the nutritional information is also available on the ‘Gorgeous Food’ page of our website. Simply click on the names of the meals to see the nutritional breakdown and list of ingredients.

I’m breastfeeding, is it suitable for me?

We don’t recommend dieting while breastfeeding.

MY WEIGHT LOSS PROFILE:

What is Body Mass Index (BMI)?

Measuring your BMI is a great way to check if you are a healthy weight for your height. The calculation divides your weight by your height squared.

What does BMI tell me?

BMI helps to give you an indication as to whether you are at an increased risk of health problems which are associated with being overweight and obesity. Generally, the higher your BMI the greater your risk of developing health problems is. You can use our BMI calculator and free weight loss profile to check if your BMI falls in a healthy BMI range.

Who should use BMI calculations?

A BMI calculation is for adults. It uses ranges for each category which takes into consideration that people come in different shapes and sizes. Please remember that there are exceptions to the rule, please get in touch with us if you have further questions.

What are the BMI ranges?

If your BMI is below 18.5 this means that you may be underweight.
If your BMI is between 18.5 and 24.9 this puts you in the healthy weight range.
If your BMI is between 25 and 29.9 this means you may be overweight.
If your BMI is 30 or above this is classified as obese.

What if I’m not in a healthy range?

If your BMI falls outside of the “healthy” weight range you may want to talk to a health professional about how you can best achieve a healthier body weight. At Jane Plan we have an in house nutritionist who would be happy to answer your questions. If you are over the healthy BMI range you can reduce your BMI by losing weight. This is best achieved by following a healthy eating plan and taking regular exercise if you are able to. If you are classified as underweight it is not recommended that you try to lose further weight.

How accurate is the BMI?

It is a useful measurement for the majority of people however it does have limitations:
- Athletes or very muscular people could record higher BMI readings – this is because muscle weighs more than fat and BMI cannot account for this.
- It is a general tool to help people identify people who may be at an increased health risk, it is not a diagnostic tool that determines the overall health of a specific individual.
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding BMI does not apply.

What is Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) and Active Metabolic Rate (AMR)?

The energy your body needs to keep all your bodily functions going is known as Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR). The energy you need over and above this to cover physical activity is known as Active Metabolic Rate (AMR). In order to lose weight you need to take in less energy than you are expending- this where Jane Plan can really help because we portion and calorie control all your diet meals.

How can Jane Plan help?

We offer a calorie and portion controlled, healthy eating plan delivered direct to your door. Click here to learn more about Jane Plan.

Are there other indicators?

Waist circumference measurements and waist to hip ratios can also be helpful tools in assessing increased health risks. That’s why we offer not only a weight loss tracker on our web site, but also an inch loss tracker, where you can record changes in your waist measurement. According to NHS guidelines, you have a higher risk of health problems if you waist size is more than 94cm (37in) if you’re a man, or more than 80cm (31.5in) if you’re a woman.
